Last Week at the Footwear Health Tech Conference in Eindhoven, the Netherlands a very exciting product was introduced to the world.

A new mobility aid named Path which helps people who have trouble walking – simply by being fitted to their shoes.

Lise Pape, an engineer at InnovationRCA at the Royal College of Art in London, was inspired to build the system by her father, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease more than 10 years ago. Like many people with Parkinson's, he falls occasionally and experiences freezing of gait, the temporary impression that his feet are glued to the ground.

History of the Active Walker

The inspiration for the Active Walker came in 2002 when market research suggested that the development of rollators (walkers) was one area of mobility that lack innovation. Access wanted to change this and decided to design a new rollator entirely.

Access did not want to create any old rollator, and such ergonomics, adjustability, comfort, manoeuvrability and safety were the key points that they wanted incorporated into the design.

Today the Active Walker is being sold in over 20 countries throughout Europe, America, Canada and further afield. With this number set to rise in the future. Customer response has been excellent with users noticing the extra comfort and safety that the Active Walker provides.
